Russell Bateman, founder of The SB Collective*, has become quite a household name in the health and beauty world. His exclusive classes are tough but extremely effective, and adored by models and celebrities alike. You only have to take one look at the girls’ bodies and the hefty waiting list to understand where the hype is coming from and it doesn’t stop there, SBC is not just a class it’s a lifestyle. Russell is a firm believer in the power of eating clean in order to train mean. We caught up with the man himself to find out the best ways to keep us motivated when exercising and blitz our unwanted wobbly bits before we hit the beach.

1. Diet is key

Diet and the right training are key! The two are completely interlinked and complement each other entirely. If one element is out of sync with the other you can't expect to reach your maximum body potential. If you’re training hard in the gym, put the same effort into eating the right foods and cutting out bad habits. Broccoli may get stuck in your teeth but too much sugar will get stuck on your ass!

2. Embrace your primal instincts

The human body is magical. We were born to crawl, jump, push and pull. It's all about getting back to human and Making these primal movements as challenging as possible to illicit the greatest fat loss and strength responses

3. Love and other drugs

Have loads of sex! Jump, squat, crawl or sprint. We need to breathe, deep long breaths. Sprint if you're going to run too!

4. Try new things

Don't go into a gym and spend hours on a cross trainer. That's like going to the Tate gallery and spending your duration queuing at the cloakroom.

5. Supplements go a long way

Supplements could be a good choice too – diindolylmethane (or DIM) can help clear excess oestrogen that many women build up from using too many cosmetics and other environmental factors. These can make you just as fat as junk food.

6. Detoxify

You have to detoxify to shift fat and by eliminating the excess oestrogen and toxins. Start consuming a diet high in fibre along with large amounts of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and kale which contain DIM. The excess oestrogen could be making your legs bigger.

7. Join The SBC movement

Try to do 3 intense SBC blasts a week (including a workshop) coupled with a diet rich in high protein, fibrous carbs and healthy fats are the quickest route to the body you want.

The SBC is most fun with a friend as demonstrated by Millie Mackintosh and Zara Martin @russellsbc

8. Avoid sugary drinks

Don’t drink sugar fuelled energy drinks in or before training. These sugar laden stimulants will decrease the metabolic effect and you could add fat as opposed to losing it. Also filled with awful additives and nasties.

9. Keep going

Don’t rest too much. Keep rest periods to a minimum to get your fitness levels higher and get leaner. Take a watch and monitor.

10. Push yourself

Follow these SBC combinations for some amazing ways to get leaner legs and abs. Not only effective but challenging and exercises to push your boundaries. Reject boredom and your body will be stimulated.
