When it comes to baking you either have the magic touch, or you haven't. The trick, we're told, is to follow the recipe to the letter, and weigh all your ingredients out before you start. Leaving a mixture unattended while you're off searching for the cocoa powder is a no no apparently - baking is all about chemical reactions and timing is key. And don't even THINK about 'winging it'. Not only will this spell soggy-bottom disaster but Mary Berry will appear from nowhere and bop you over the head with a baking tray.
But if you are keen to master this art then there are some amazing baking bloggers out there you can follow, all dispensing nuggets of wisdom on a regular basis. And if you decide some of the towering chocolate fudge layer cakes and intricate choux towers are all too much like hard work, then just follow these 5 favourites, just for the sheer cake porn. There are worse things you can do in life than lust over a load of cakes.

Frances Quinn
Frances Quinn is probably one of the most creative bakers in the UK. Inspired, eccentric and always fun, she’s famous for her ‘how-did-you-do-that’ creations – like her ‘Toast and marmalade’ cake to celebrate National Toast day and ‘eclipse’ porridge, here. Follow Frances Quinn’s blog here or her Instagram here.
James Morton
Yet another GBBO-er - do we detect a theme here? – James has just written a new book How Baking Works. We love this idea for Blueberry pizza on his blog. Follow James’s blog here or his account on Instagram which is an ode to boy carbs: aka bread, bread, more bread – and a few doughnuts too.
Georgina Hayden
Although not strictly a 100% baking blog Georgina is a food writer and illustrator who makes a mean chocolate cake. She is also one of the Jamie Oliver family of stylists, writing and contributing to his cookbooks, magazine and website on a regular basis. This cake here is a birthday cake she made for Jools Oliver’s birthday recently. Check out her blog here and follow Georgina on Instagram here
