Happy news today from a new Lancome Advanced Genefique study: as a nation, we are starting to feel more optimistic about ageing and more confident in our own skin. Yippee! Some beauty news around ageing that doesn't involve invasive procedures or Photoshop. Lancome carried out the study as part of their '#LoveYourAge' campaign, surveying 1,000 women in the UK.
Hearteningly, over half the women said they loved being the 26-40 age bracket, with 30 as the optimum age that women felt their most beautiful. But that's not to say it's all doom and gloom and fillers after that - two-third of the women surveyed said they felt more confident in themselves as they age and are embracing the changes.
Amandine Ohayon, L'Oreal Luxury's UK Managing Director, said this could be attributed to "Women are taking better care of themselves both on the inside and out, and many are becoming more comfortable with the concept of growing older".
However, while us ladies are loving ourselves, in seems the rest of the world might need to catch up. Penelope Cruz, Lancome Advanced Genefique's smoking hot ambassador (and fortysomething!) said "The industry treats still treats men and women very differently. And one of those things is that they would never ask a man, an actor, in a press conference, about his age or how does he feel about turning 40, 50. For a woman, I think they've been asking me how I feel about getting older since I was 20!”
With stars like Helen Mirren, Jessica Lange and Twiggy bagging big beauty campaigns, hopefully global attitudes towards ageing will start to shift, too. Who says George Clooney is the only one who gets to be a silver fox?
