Or orange blossom, or peonies, or iris…

When you’re a bride-to-be, no detail is too small when it comes to planning your perfect day. And finding the ideal wedding scent is one finishing touch you should never overlook.

The question is, should you stick to your signature scent for your trip down the aisle? Or find something new and special that will take you back to your wedding day every time you smell it?

For us, it's all about finding a dedicated scent for your nuptials, and You & Your Wedding beauty writer Alison Yau agrees. She told us: "Scent is strongly linked to memory, so there's a great argument for choosing a new wedding fragrance that will always remind you of the day.”

So how do you find the perfect perfume?

“We've seen a lot of brides pair their perfume with their bouquet, selecting a fragrance that features the same flowers," says Alison. "You can also let the season and venue inspire your scent, say by choosing a rich oriental for an opulent ballroom versus a soft floral for a classic English country garden affair."

If you want to really treat yourself, why not combine two or more scents? Brands including Penhaligon’s and Jo Malone London offer special fragrance-combining bridal appointments so you can create a scent that's totally unique.

Jo Malone London’s lifestyle editor, Debbie Wild told us: “We offer a Bridal Consultation in all boutiques, where you can discover and explore different ways to scent your wedding day. You may even choose to combine scents for different parts of the day, or different areas in the venue."

And don’t forget to think about what he’ll be wearing. “The bride and groom will want their scents to complement each other on the day,” Debbie told us. “The bride may choose to wear Orange Blossom, which will interlace with the groom’s Amber & Lavender. These scents together offer a clean and aromatic scent combined with a fruity freshness – the perfect match.”

And how about making your scent your ‘something blue’? “Jo Malone's Wild Bluebell captures the delicate sweetness of dewy bluebells suffused with lily of the valley and eglantine – a truly charming and whimsical scent,” says Debbie.
