The Ordinary Was The First Beauty Brand I Loved – Here’s What I Think About The New Body Products

The famously affordable brand has finally expanded into body care produts.

The Ordinary was the first skincare brand I ever truly invested in during my university days, drawn in by its affordable, ingredient-focused approach. So, when I heard it was expanding into body care, I was beyond excited to see how it would translate its effective, no-nonsense philosophy into products for the entire body.

Unlike many brands that flood the market with a plethora of products, The Ordinary has launched just three key items in its body care range. This focused approach is refreshing and aligns perfectly with the minimalistic ethos that many skincare enthusiasts, including me, appreciate. We love skincare minimalism over here—no unnecessary clutter, just products that work.

The line-up includes a Salicylic Acid 0.5% Body Serum for oily and spot-prone skin, a Niacinamide 5% Face and Body Emulsion for even skin tone, and a Natural Moisturising Factors + Inulin Body Lotion for hydration. I was particularly eager to try the body emulsion. I’ve been using facial acids on problem areas like my back and chest for ages, so having a dedicated body product was a game-changer for me.

I’ve tried and tested these products, keeping in mind that everyone’s skin is different – for the record, my main concerns are pigmentation and dryness rather than breakouts. Without further ado, here's what you need to know.

This has been a great addition to my routine. The Ordinary’s Niacinamide and I go way back, and this product continues to impress me with its ability to add moisture and address hyperpigmentation effectively. I’ve recently started using it for spot treatment and I’m pleased with how it feels on my skin. The emulsion has a thick consistency but sinks in beautifully, leaving my skin hydrated without any stickiness. I make sure to pair with a sunscreen always. My only qualm is that it’s not the same size as the two other products.

The serum has a watery consistency that glides on smoothly, but the packaging could be improved. The nozzle tends to dispense more product than needed, so a little goes a long way. I appreciate the fragrance-free formula, making it suitable for sensitive skin. While I haven’t seen dramatic results yet, I’m very optimistic. The serum is designed to target blemishes and uneven texture with 0.5% salicylic acid. This ingredient helps to unclog pores and exfoliate the skin’s surface. I’m looking forward to incorporating it consistently into my routine to assess its full potential.

I’m more of a thicker consistency cream kind of girl, and this lotion is on the lighter side. However, this lighter texture actually makes it easier to layer with other products, and it’s not greasy at all. I’ve never used inulin before, but my skin had no issues with it. Overall, it’s an affordable, effective cream that does the job well. It keeps my skin hydrated without feeling heavy, which is a great balance for daily use.
