In case you missed it, today is apparently the most depressing day of the year. Dreamed up by the marketing team of a travel company in a bid to sell flights, we now have the joy of ‘Blue Monday’ on the third Monday of January every year. While we all know rubbish days can strike at any time, regardless of the date, the combination of miserable weather and waiting for payday post Christmas can make January feel like a tough mountain to climb.
However, on the flip side, it’s the ideal excuse to hunker down and make your way through those previously neglected books and box sets. While you’re at it you might as well light all the candles, loll about in the bath and find five minutes to finally do that face mask. Here's what we'll be treating ourselves to for those much-needed nights in...
Therapie Slumber Pillow Spray, £29
January is the month for early nights, and to ensure a deep sleep there is nothing better than a spritz of pillow spray. Fans of Michelle Roques O'neil's product line will know too well that her aromatherapy concoctions are pure magic, and this new one is no different.
On a similar theme, there is no nicer way to hit the hay than a pre-bedtime spacemask. Swap your usual Instagram scrolling/stalking and instead sit back and relax as this self-heating mask transport you to another dimension - relieving tiredness, eye strain and many other Earthly tensions.
Diptyque Rose Delight Candle, £50
Forget waiting until Valentine's Day for a rose, brighten up your January with Diptyque's new limited-edition candle. Housed in a shelfie-worthy pretty pink pot, the comforting scent is inspired by rose turkish delight.
MOA Fortifying Green Bath Potion, £27.50
Alongside books and boxsets, bathing is an excellent January activity. Elevate the experience with a few capfuls of this bath potion - the reassuring blend of peppermint, fennel, fir needle and sweet birch will refresh, detoxify, calm and relieve aching muscles at the end of a long day.
Susanne Kaufmann Lavendelöl De-Stress Oil, £25

Grown Alchemist Hand Cream, £24
The harsh winter weather combined with the dreaded office heating/air-con can suck all the moisture out of you skin, in particular your hands. We love this hand cream enriched with sweet almond oil and vitamin A that's packaged in a pretty mint tube.
This Works Stress Check Face Mask, £32
A quick fix for stressed-out skin, this mask harnesses the powers of antioxidant rich turmeric oil to calm irritations and blemishes. Leave on for ten minutes for a speedy solution or leave on overnight for more intense results.
