Zara McDermott of Made In Chelsea and Love Island fame has thus far been delighting her 1.3 million strong wealth of Instagram followers with entertaining snapshots of her lockdown life with boyfriend Sam Thompson, workout tips and even a protein packed banana bread recipe. She even took the time out to give Grazia some insider beauty intel, on what make-up looks best on camera (read up on her top tips here). Having appeared on Made In Chelsea, Love Island and The X Factor, she's a seasoned reality TV star who should know. We caught up with Zara again to get the lowdown on her go-to mood boosters lifting her mood mid-lock down.
**The song I listen to when I need a boost:**Probably any of my own songs because I put all the work in to create them and they make me so proud! I have just written a new song called Malibu which I hope to release soon. It’s amazing.
The book I can’t put down: The Secret!
My go-to feelgood recipe: My Dad’s spaghetti carbonara, it’s the best thing I have ever tasted.
The Instagram account that brings me joy: @samthompsonuk because his Instagram is so funny.
What never fails to make me smile: Louise (Thompson)'s dog Koji! He is the cutest. I love animals and I miss my cats while I’m on lockdown with Sam, so it’s nice to have a little furry friend around to hang with.
I’m taking each day as it comes, not letting it stress me out, just living and trying to find something enjoyable in each day
My go-to supplement: Biotin.
My favourite at-home workout: I love using resistance bands and ankle weights.
My feel-good at-home beauty routine: I love putting a dab of BB cream on (Chantecaille is my fave), a little brow pencil and a hint of mascara. I wear that every day.
My failsafe face mask: I’m obsessed with the Protocol Collagen Face Mask, £24.95. It’s the best.
Another song that makes me smile: I love the song Potential by Alt Bloom. Not many people know about them but I first heard them when I was walking through H&M, I Shazam-ed the song and I’ve been a huge fan ever since.
The smell that lifts my mood: I always wear Victoria’s Secret Romantic Body Mist, £11.50, I put it on after the shower so the smell makes me feel clean.
The movie I’ll happily watch again and again: The Notebook. A classic but my favourite.
The Netflix show I tell everyone to watch: The Staircase! I watched it 3 times! Or Gossip Girl. I watched that 8 times.
My happy place: The kitchen. I love baking.
A final feelgood note from me: I always live by the statement 'everything is what you make it'. There will always be difficult situations that occur in life but you have a choice, you can make the best of a situation or you can just roll over and let it defeat you. This lockdown is a great example of that. I have used this time to spend some proper quality time with my boyfriend (we are so busy when we're both constantly working) and his family (who we are isolating with), I have used it as an opportunity to bake, learn new cooking skills and to have a huge clear out. I’m taking each day as it comes, not letting it stress me out, just living and trying to find something enjoyable in each day.
