Music sensation Call Me Loop (real name Georgia) is a Surrey-turned-Brixton lady whose first release 'Looking At You' drew in over 100,000 streams within its first day on Spotify. Here just after the release of her new single Strike, she talks Grazia through her beauty heroes, music mainstays and reels off her happy places in this latest edition of The Feelgood Files.
The song I listen to when I need a boost: Flume's Never Be Like You feat. Kai. The words are actually quite bum-out but the instrumental and the melodies... ooof it gets me every time. And if you still need an extra pick me up after that, go listen to my song Self Love!
The book I can’t put down: The Harry Potter collection will forever be my favourite books of all time - I can pick up any of those at any point and get the most warm nostalgic feeling. Excluding those though, I'm currently reading Maybe You Should Talk To Someone by Lori Gottlieb which is amazing. So well written, so funny, so fascinating. A new favourite.
My go-to feelgood recipe to cook: Ooo there's a bunch I love, but I'd say my go-to has got to be tuna pesto pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and spinach. Takes about 5 mins to cook and is DELICIOUS.
The Instagram account that brings me joy: This one's easy! @drsmashlove. If you're dog obsessed like me, then this is the account for you! The most heart-warming and hilarious content of puppers of all shapes and sizes.
What never fails to make me smile: Friends. I have it on in the background at home whenever I'm doing life admin. And my actual friends! FaceTiming's been getting me through this isolation period, seeing everyone's faces, drinking wine, playing games. It's not the real thing but it'll do for now.
My go-to supplement: I don't know if this counts as a supplement, but I've started taking Symprove every morning to improve and protect my gut health and it's been amazing.
My favourite at-home workout: I've been doing Barry's Bootcamp Insta lives on and off since lockdown started - the trainers always give off so much energy, I love it. Barre classes are amazing too, but I dread them a bit beforehand cos I find them so hard! I've done a few with Psycle and could barely walk the next day. And @petercobby and @loukasbeardwood are two great trainers that I follow who have quite different but complementary training styles.
My feel-good at-home beauty routine: If I'm having a day at home I'll usually treat myself by treating my hair! Even though I'm brunette now (minus my two front streaks!), I still have loads of bleach in my hair under the brown, so I'll use Olaplex or Redken pH Bonder Post Service Perfector, £15.50, once a week to strengthen it. I'll leave it in for a couple of hours before washing it out, and then use that time to exfoliate, epilate etc! Or - life hack alert - if I'm going out in the evening then sometimes I'll leave it in overnight, it helps create a really tight slick-back bun!
My failsafe face mask: I don't really wear face masks to be honest. I never know which ones are good for you and which are actually damaging to the skin! But I love Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules, £72, which I put on before my moisturiser before bed. They're amazing for plumping the skin, erasing lines and boosting moisture.
The song that makes me smile: At Last by Etta James. It's one of my favourite songs of all time. It makes me think of Barbados, I listened to it non-stop when I was on holiday there.
The smell that lifts my mood: This might sound weird, but suncream! I have a day face moisturiser that's SPF 50 and every morning when I put it on the smell immediately transports me back to different holidays I've been on and it lifts my mood instantly.
The movie I’ll happily watch again and again: Bring It On. It was like THE film of my childhood with my friends. We'd watch it over and over again and learn the cheers and choreography. We actually just did a Bring It On movie night at mine a couple months ago and ordered pom-poms online and got takeaway and drank and shouted along to all the lines and got up and did all the chants. Your stereotypical girls night in. Loved it.
The Netflix show I tell everyone to watch: There's so many amazing ones, but I've just started watching Money Heist (or Casa De Papel), which is hands down one of the best series I've ever watched, and I've been messaging everyone I know demanding that they watch it. I'm 10 episodes in and I'm obsessed. Every episode is so fast-paced and the cliffhangers and plot twists are relentless. Also - tip from me - make sure you watch it in Spanish with English subtitles, cos the dubbing is a bit rubbish. But I guess if you hate subtitled stuff, ignore me. Either way, it's unmissable.
**My happy place:**I don't really have one specific place. My parents' house near Guildford where I lived before I moved to London will always be one of my favourite places on Earth though and just being on the sofa in my flat with my boyfriend or friends makes me happy. That's me at my most 'me'. Lazy and comfy and cosy.
Having said that I am getting a little bored of home at the moment! I can’t wait to start travelling to different cities once this is all over and discovering some new happy places around the world. I have a few I think. My parents' house near Guildford where I lived before I moved to London. That'll always be home for me. On the sofa in my flat with my boyfriend or my friends. That's me at my most 'me'. Lazy and comfy and cosy!
A final inspirational note from me: Take this time to ground yourself, do everything you always moan about not having the time to do in normal life; Facetime your friends and relatives, take up hobbies, get creative, relax. Just imagine how bloody grateful we're all going to be for the little things in life after this. And listen to Strike by Call Me Loop.
