If you thought body sprays were only for the realms of lusty teenage discos and belong only to the depths of sweaty gym bags, think again. Like all good things from the ‘90s, they’ve been revived from the dead and this new wave of scents, encased in no-frills aerosol cans, deliver a light misting of scent all over the body: “Think of them as a lighter version of your favourite fragrance,” says Jo Malone CBE, founder of Jo Loves (and Jo Malone London before it), “They’re great for traveling and aren’t heavy so feel easier to wear.”
And while they may be reminsicent of your old school Impulse or Charlie cans and the boys who smelled of Lynx Africa back at school, these scents aren’t as strong and give your nose a break from perfume; think of them as entry level perfume, a smell that you don’t have to commit to thanks to their lower price point. And during this hot weather? “Pop them in the fridge for an ice cold spritz in the heat of summer,” recommends Jo.
Here are the ones not to be mist…
Tom Ford Private Blend Neroli Portofino Body Spray, £46
Holidays aren't holidays without a spritz of Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum and the body spray brings as much luxe to the holiday beauty crew as the original perfume. Think Italian Riviera citrus smells combined with an amber undertone for pure vacay goals.
Jo Loves Grapefruit Fragrance Body Spray, £40
The ball bearing in Jo Loves' offering taps into that shake-and-go graffiti can vibe for a little fragrance fun each day. You'll find the scent sparklingly clear with an edge, thanks to notes of Pink Grapefruit, Black Pepper and Cedarwood.
Chanel no5 L’eau All-Over Spray, £49
Make like Marilyn and mist this iconic scent pre-clothes for a veil of those lemon, mandarin and orange notes all over skin. Unlike its namesake perfume, this contains a lower concentration of alcohol for those who suffer from particularly dry skin.
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Cooling Spray, £34
If it's a breezy beach, buttery suncream and sunkissed skin you love then look no further than Bronze Goddess for the ultimate poolside spritz. Not only does it smell of bergamot, tiare flower and coconut but it cools the skin as you apply.
Jo Malone Hot Blossoms Body Mist, £45
For humid nights out or for a spritz of summer, this mist was inspired by the tropical streets of Brazil; think velvety and floral with a bitter twist. It'll envelope skin and make you feel a little bit sexy and a lot exotic.
