Of course, we didn't need more proof that the classic red lip is chic and universally flattering, but the bevy of models coming down the catwalk at New York and Milan's fashion weeks with scarlet pouts certainly didn't hurt. At 3.1 Philip Lim, there were enough deep, oxblood lips to make us reconsider the shade we often relegate as 'too dressy'. A red lip, of course, has utterly transformative power. It can turn an everyday outfit into a Parisian emsemble, and switch a bare face from drab to fab.
Nailing the right red? Easier said than done. Firstly, you have to decide what kind of finish you want. Are you a matte girl? Or a glossy one? Or do you want something else altogether, and favour a satin finish? Personally, we think a matte red lip is the chicest statement for daytime, while gloss suits a martini in hand perfectly. Then, what tone should you plump for? There's orange reds, pink reds, blue reds...the whole thing can quickly turn into quite a headache. So, to help you to crack this season's hottest shade - and also, an all-time classic - we've enlisted the help of some expert friends.
