One lipstick colour reigned supreme at the Oscars this year and it wasn't a statement red. So about that theory. Did you notice the Old Hollywood theme this year? An unofficial one of course, only the Met Gala sends out invites with a dress code that specific. But there was no denying the A-listers' leant in wholeheartedly to the nostalgia and glimmering romance of a bygone era. There was Emma Stone's flapper girl made modern look, complete with pixie cut. There were Miley Cyrus's XXL Hollywood waves (which she paired with a headline-making set of bleached brows), Selena Gomez's Marilyn Monroe-style bob, Halle Berry's flipped cut and of course the plethora of beaded and sequinned gowns that hit the red carpet, each one of them worthy of any silver screen siren you please.
Speaking of those gowns, pair them with a bold lip (especially a red lip) and you risk looking like you're in costume. This could account for the myriad nude lip looks at this year's Academy Awards.
