Eyeliner Flicks Have Gone Fabulously Rogue On The Red Carpet

Forget the smoky eye.

Saoirse Ronan

A smudged-up smoky eye used to be the red carpet's eye-look mainstay, but now there's a new trend and it's gosh-darned bold and beautiful. Saoirse Ronan stepped out at the Little Women world premiere alongside Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern and Greta Gerwig sporting a turquoise winged liner that chimed perfectly with the detailing on her dress. It accentuated the tone of her blue eyes to boot so it's fair to say this look was a winner.

Earlier in the week at the Fashion Awards, Rita Ora, had a not dissimilar colour on her eyes, in thick, graphic swirls and flicks. Paired with an otherwise low-key makeup look (we love the fairly bare eyes and nude shade of lippy), the eye liner maintained centre stage.

Not too far away, at the same event, Zara Larsson went for a more monochrome feel, with a dose of floating liner. The minimalist black liquid liner flicks framed her lids and flicked out at just the right angle. The look was subtle enough to persuade us we might just be able to try this for ourselves. The simple black colour choice was inspired too, as Zara's rose gold hair was providing the main statement, and had the two looks been made to compete, it would all have been a bit OTT.

Last and most certainly not least comes Katy Perry, who in the middle of her new music video release for Cosy Little Christmas, served up a full whack of festive cheer with a sumptuous candy cane liner look. Obsessed does not cover it, we're head over heels for this one. Keen to up the ante for your Christmas party? Look. No. Further.

We reckon it's Zara Larsson's look that's the most achievable, so shop our rundown of black liner faves and get cracking.
