Naomi Campbell Lands Her First Major Beauty Campaign As The New Face Of Nars

Despite her three decade long modelling career comprising of numerous covers and catwalks, Naomi Campbell has never been the face of a major beauty campaign. Today’s news changes all that with Nars Cosmetics confirming that the supermodel is their new face.

Her first gig, shot by Francois Nars with make-up by James Kaliardos, will be for the Radiance Repowered range. The Spring 2019 campaign will be for a new Skin Deep Eye Palette, the Super Radiant Booster, and an extended collection of foundation shades. It’s also been confirmed that Campbell will star in the new campaign for Orgasm, the brand’s most iconic range, later in 2019.

Although this is her first campaign for the brand, she has had a close long-existing relationship with Nars’ founder, Francois Nars.

“François and I are like family and the same goes for Nars. I am honoured to be a part of such an incredible brand for so long,” Campbell commented.

“Naomi is a living icon and brings such strong personality to the camera. She and I are like family. I have known her since the very beginning of her career. From the start, I have admired her, her beauty, and her style,” Nars added.

The first image from the campaign, a close up shot, was shared by both Nars and Campbell on Instagram.

Not only does Campbell look stunning (a given), it’s refreshing to see the brand use a model in her late forties in such an unapologetic way. Despite the fact ‘anti-ageing’ is slowing disappearing from the labels of beauty products, the majority of major brands still use young models or celebrities to front skincare and makeup campaigns, and, if they do use ‘older’ women it’s often in an age-related way.

Considering Nars used 69-year-old Charlotte Rampling in their 2016 campaign, it’s hardly a surprise casting from the makeup company. Hopefully this move will encourage other brands to follow suit.
