When it comes to finding the perfect mascara, we’ll admit it can be a mean feat. But is it us, or does it always seem to be a mix-n-match combination that generates the ‘perfect lash’? One has always got the perfect brush, while it’s the blacker-than-black pigment of another that’ll keep you looking wide-awake for hours. Then you need to recruit a serious separator, and another for its thickening ability. We’re exhausted just talking about it.

But what if we told you MAC had nailed everything - from the formula, to the brush, to the curl and even separation, all with one mighty wand? Yes, their hotly anticipated Instantcurl Lash Mascara, £19, which has taken Instagram and beauty blogs by storm, is going to be a total sell-out.

Not sold? Here’s why you should be…

What is so great about it?

Well, firstly let’s talk about the brush. Twist off the top of the tube and out comes a pretty ordinary looking brush. But give the tip of the applicator wand a twist, et voila! It transforms into a curved banana shape. The idea is that it’ll help give you your curliest lashes ever while reaching deep into the nooks and crannies of your eye to coat every lash, even the tiny corner ones.

What the experts have to say…

“If you’re someone that regularly bends your mascara wand to enable you to reach your entire lash line then this is for you. With one twist of the cap you can adjust the bend of your wand to custom fit your eye shape.

My top tip - twist the cap so the wand is at its most extreme curve, you can use the convex side to hit the lash root with a blast of product to finish your application. Final results should be sleek lengthened thick full looking lashes!” says MAC Senior Artist, Debbie Finnegan.

Putting It To The Test…

What did our Associate Beauty Editor say when she put the mascara to the test?

“I have to admit, it took me while to get to grips with curved aspect of the brush but now I’ve nailed exactly how to hold it and practised adjusting the angle I can’t go back to my original straight wand. My lashes definitely look longer and are 100% curlier - no lash curler necessary. I also saw a mega difference in the separation. If you’ve got straight, short lashes, this is a winning wand!"
