Thought all-over shimmer is best consigned to those late-Nineties halcyon days, when you could purchase body glitter in a deodorant-style roll-on from dearly departed Claire’s Accessories or, better still, liberally apply a cloud of iridescence with one of those old-time powder puffs? Prepare to cast aside all your preconceptions. Thanks to the Instagram-led mania for strobing (for the uninitiated, that’s contouring’s glowier cousin, a technique that shapes and defines the face by illuminating the parts of the face that naturally catch the light) and the launch of Fenty Beauty’s sell-out Body Lava, we’ve been reconsidering glitter for grown-ups, and MAC’s new Glow collection makes a strong case in its favour.

Launching online today, the new drop focuses on luminosity and radiance, beauty buzzwords that we can certainly get behind. According to MAC’s director of make-up artistry Terry Barber, it’s all about ‘a new story of glow,’ adding ‘a luminous veil on the face and body’ and adding ‘a “just been to the spa” gleam on the cheekbones.’

In total, there are four new products. Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Whisper of Gilt, £25.50, sees the cult favourite liquid-powder highlighter reimagined in a shimmering pale gold, designed to sculpt, highlight and add luminosity. Fans of MAC’s Strobe Cream, the multi-tasking base that can be used as a radiance-boosting primer or as a highlighter, will want to snap up the new Body Lotion, £25, which adds a subtle sheen to skin, while Prep+Prime Fix+ spray has also had a glow up. Available in pink and gold finishes, £19, the setting spray has been infused with translucent pearls for the ultimate strobed finish.

The best bit? All four launches are permanent additions to MAC’s product line-up. It seems that our glow will be sticking around for good...
