Following the horror at the ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in which Heather Heyer, 32, was killed, people are doing what they can to show support to those affected and stand in solidarity. There are many ways people are donating to help the victims of Charlottesville, and one of those ways is buying a lipstick.
Katie Sones, a college student, decided to launch a beauty company called Lipslut in 2016 to protest against Trump's election and support women's organisations. It’s known for its F*ck Trump lipstick, which is a matte, rosy-hued liquid lipstick. When it was first launched, 50 percent of the earnings from Lipslut purchases were donated to a women’s charity. On the website Sones writes, '50% towards charity, 100% against tyranny, and of course, 100% cruelty free. Finally, a lipstick as bold as you'.

Talking to her college newspaper Mustang News, Sones said: ‘After the election, everyone was saying, “donate to this and that,” and I never donated, but I thought “why aren’t I doing that?” People are going to buy lipstick either way, so if you could do that and have the money go somewhere that you support, that would be perfect.’
However, in the wake of the events are Charlottesville, Katie has decided that for the rest of August she will donate 100 percent of all the proceeds to organisations such as the Albermale-Charlottesville NAACP and BLM Charlottesville to help those affected and to bring awareness to the cause.
Speaking to Refinery29 she said: ‘It has always bothered me, especially in a time when our political system is so dysfunctional, that companies rarely speak out [against] social issues, despite holding large influence in our society.
‘I don’t believe that the fear of losing customers makes for an apt excuse to ignore human rights.’
