Who knew the BAFTAs 2020 would be the moment we saw Kate Middleton take her beauty game to the next level? We're used to seeing the Duchess of Cambridge crack out the mother of all blow dries (and we're here for it) but it's not exactly the cutting-edge trend in beauty.
We're well accustomed to Kate's trademark rosy cheeks, brown shadowed eyes, defined brows and barely-there lipstick, so our eyes widened when she stepped out onto the red carpet for the BAFTAs 2020. Here are the five ways she upped the ante in the hair and make-up arena.
1. The Cat Eye Flick
Well, hello liner skills! Whether Kate's doing her own make-up (as she reportedly does sometimes), or she's left it to a pro, we're thoroughly on board with this new look on the Duchess. That flick is either the work of a great felt tip liner or a small brush and pot liner.

2. The Waterline Liner
Kate used to wear dark liner on her waterline a lot back in the day and she has seemingly rediscovered the eye-defining make-up trick just in time for her BAFTAs 2020 red carpet appearance. Adding a sweep of kohl liner across your upper and lower waterline not only draws attention to your eyes but makes your lashes look thicker, too.
3. All The Volume
Prior to styling the up-do, it's evident that Kate's hair stylist spent a lot of care and attention adding in volume at the roots. It's more volume than we've seen in Kate's hair styles for a long time. Boosting volume at the crown of your head draws onlookers' eyes upwards, giving the illusion of lifted features. Who needs firming face creams?!
4. The Intricate Up-Do
Come on now, that hair do is a work of art! Kate has often erred on the safe side with a low bun, and the odd half-up-half-down do, and we're very excited to see her push the boundaries tonight. The ornate style perfectly offsets her white and gold gown. Where better to exhibit a bit of opulence than an A-lister-laden red carpet?
5. The Glow
Look closely and you'll see that Kate has said yes to a sweep or two of subtle highlighter. It is most noticeably swept across the apple of her cheeks and patted below the eyebrow to emphasise its arch.

To emulate Kate's barely-there glow steer clear of any unicorn shades of highlighter. Kate wears a pale nude colour, much like those that the Hourglass Ambient Lighting range offer up (Rosie Huntignton-Whiteley is a huge fan).
