Fairycore

Let's talk fairycore. It goes without saying that fashion and beauty trends can be sparked by anything and everything. They can be sparked by big media moments. Take this winter's fascination with Regencycore for example. The nation's interest in feather headbands, long gloves and empire line dresses all spiked after Bridgerton hit Netflix and caused a sensation. Even lockdown culture came into play when the nation was first required, largely, to work from home. Suddenly the masses became obsessed with baking banana bread, tablescaping and picnicking. Enter cottagecore. Now as our attention turns to spring and of that glow on the horizon that promises (fingers crossed) a progressive lifting of lockdown restrictions and some semblance of normality, the trend du jour is centred on florals, fantasy, and etherealism. It's time to get on board with fairycore.

What Is Fairycore?

There have already been a few notable spikes in relation to fairycore searches on Pinterestcompared to this time last year. The platform has seen searches for 'fairy aesthetic' quadruple so far this year with a 145% increase in searches for 'fairy make-up' and six times more searches of 'fairycore' too. So what does the fairycore aesthetic involve?

Florals for one. The incredible make-up art achieved with tiny pressed flowers is astounding, and evocative of the beauty looks flaunted down the runway at Preen's SS17 show. If pasting dried flowers to your face is a step too far though, even for that long-awaited first social outing after lockdown, you might consider a flower crown. And if you're thinking that flower crowns are_so_festival season 2016 then think again. They're back in a big way.

Then there's the blush. The fairycore aesthetic demands you look every inch the youthful nature-loving soul so a sun-blushed flush across your cheeks and even the tip of your nose and chin are essential. And don't forget your highlighter. Glowing skin is pretty much a requirement for the fairycore make-up aesthetic. Apply generously. Oh and the look doesn't stop there. Scroll down for all the fairycore manicure inspiration you need ahead of nail salons opening up shop once more from 12th April. Time to add a few packets of pressed flowers to your digital shopping basket? We think so!
