After a bout of lockdowns that saw beauty obsessives ditching full coverage make-up on masse and upping their skincare spend, it stands to reason that one of the latest make-up trends to emerge this season involves a bare-look complexion. Yes, celebrities and make-up artists alike have been embracing a bold new look that pairs bright eye details - we're talking neon slicks of eyeliner, primary coloured eyeshadows, you name it - with bare-look skin.

Make-up guru Andrew Gallimore is a particular fan of this make-up combination, which is no surprise when you consider his background in fine art. Here Andrew speaks exclusively to Grazia about how best to achieve that very 2021 pairing of a bright eye look and glowing skin at home.

How To Achieve The Look At Home

According to Andrew this make-up trend is more wearable than you might at first think. 'The look involves a single exclamation mark, one bold feature that takes centre stage. Keeping the rest of the face as bare-looking as you can ensures the overall effect isn't OTT.'

Prioritise boosting your glow by spending time on your skincare routine ahead of applying make-up and making a play for priming products that lend your complexion luminosity. Try NARS Optimal Brightening Concentrate.

If you're happy foregoing a little coverage why not switch your foundation for a tinted moisturiser? ‘ I love Code 8 Radiate Beauty Balm,' says Andrew, 'It kind of looks like nothing but definitely does something. It’s the perfect 'no makeup' base.'

Freckles And Bold Eyes

If you want to embrace your natural freckles, summer freckles or beauty spots, it is very hard to find a foundation that does not dull or mask them even slightly.

If you want to keep some level of coverage keep your usual foundation or concealer in play and concentrate on adding a level of dewiness on top. Look to Kate Hudson's Met Gala 2021 make-up for inspiration. Andrew suggests adding a slight highlight to your cheekbones, 'choose something translucent with a hint of a gleam to it, so the highlight is more of a reflection than a twinkle - Chanel Baume Essentiel, £35, is my favourite product for this.'

The Key To This Look Is Having Fun

According to Andrew the key to locking down this look is hitting on statement colours that you love and having fun with them:

'You don’t have to wear this season’s colour just because it's on trend, what if it doesn't suit your colouring? Or it doesn't make you feel good? Prioritise shades that boost your mood and make you feel confident.' When it comes to application Andrew emphasises that there's no need to strive for perfection, 'I actually love it when bright colours are applied with a bit more instinct, a single brush stroke or a finger-painting swipe, don't worry about perfection or symmetry.'

Let's not forget that this look perfectly caters for our new mask-wearing lifestyles too. What's not to love?
