Christmas party season is upon us. You've got the dress, shoes and bag sorted, so the last thing to do is to decide what beauty look you want to go for as the finishing touch. Sure, you could go for a bold, trend-inspired look (graphic eyeliner or glitter lips, anyone?), but personally, we'd opt for a classic, tried-and-tested party look - just to the A-list for inspiration...
Red Lips
Is there anything more glamorous than a red lip? The bright scarlet shade has the power to make anyone look like a movie star (it's one of our hangover secrets - seriously, try it), but only when applied correctly. First things first, find the right shade for you - orange hues suit yellow skin tones while pink skin tones are best-suited to statement dark reds. Be sure to prime your lips beforehand by buffing away any dead skin with an old toothbrush or lip scrub, like Bliss' Fabulips Sugar Scrub, and don't forget to seal with Vaseline.
Vampy Lips
If you're looking for a more daring lip colour, opt for a dark vampy hue like burgundy, berry or even black if you're feeling brave. It's a tricky look to pull off and requires confidence - be sure to keep your eye makeup subtle and natural to avoid looking too 'Halloween'.
Smokey Eyes
Kate Moss is the undisputed queen of smokey eyes, having modelled them as her signature look for the best part of three decads now. To achieve the sultry look à la Moss, be sure to use a dark grey, brown or black eyeshadow blended across the eyelid, with a creme-based shadow on the brow bone to maximise the effect. Don't forget to line your eyes, too, and a few lashings of mascara will also add to the look.
Metallic Eyes
Nothing quite says festive like shades of sparkly gold, bronze and silver, particularly if there's also glitter involved. The party-ready hues look great swept on the eyelids to dramatic effect - make sure you brush some into the corners of the eye socket and underneath the lash line too for the ultimate glam look.
Retro Bombshell Waves
Often paired with a statement lip of sorts (see: Beyonce and Chrissy Teigen), retro waves are a classic beauty look for a reason - they're universally flattering and really easy to create with a good pair of straighteners. Just wrap a section from the bottom to the roots, hold for a few seconds, then slowly pull down through the length of the hair. Seal with plenty of hairspray.

Amal Clooney
Amal Clooney is an expert at playing to her strengths - here she is emphasising her strong brows and thick, glossy hair, while also matching her lip colour to her dress.
Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid is a fan of slicked back hair and subtle makeup (after all, it allows her to show off her impeccable bone structure). Her go-to look is a touch of highlighter on her cheekbones, a nude lip and expertly-drawn cats-eye winged eyeliner.
Bella Hadid
Bella's slicked-back poker-straight locks and natural makeup allows her metallic smokey eye to do all the talking - emphasising her beautiful green eyes.
Beyonce
Beyonce is a master of all beauty looks, but we particularly love it when she goes for all out glam, like here, with retro waves pulled over one shoulder and a bold vampy lip.
Beyonce
One of our all-time favourite Beyonce looks - no one rocks a high ponytail quite like Queen Bey. To achieve the look yourself, be sure to leave some extra strands to wrap around your hair bobble, and curl the ends first.
Beyonce
Take a leaf out of Beyonce's book and pair your bold red lip with neat, slicked back hair in a low chignon.
Cara Delevingne
Cara Delevingne's bold red lip, groomed brows and subtle eye makeup are the epitome of party glam - be sure to pair with windswept hair and a messy parting to avoid looking too 'done'.
Chrissy Teigen
No one does glamorous retro waves as well as Chrissy Teigen, who has made them part of her signature red carpet repertoire. Here, she's teamed them with deep burgundy coloured lips, heightening the effect.
Emma Watson
A Hollywood tan plus minimal makeup allows Emma Watson's glamorous retro waved 'do to shine - take note.
Emma Watson
Great for anyone looking for an easy party look, take inspiration from Emma Watson, who teamed a bright orange-tinged lip with minimal eye makeup and a relaxed updo.
Emma Watson
One of Emma Watson's most memorable makeup looks was her bold glittery bronze eye for the premiere of the final installment of the Harry Potter films. The key to nailing this look? Keeping everything else very simple.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid gives a lesson in berry hues, wearing her deep red lippie with a complementary hued eye shadow. The finishing touch? Slicked back hair.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid knows how to do lippie right - case in point is this orange shade, which perfectly matches her outfit. We love it teamed with a delicate updo and natural eye makeup.
Jennifer Lawrence
One of our favourite Jennifer Lawrence beauty looks of late was her wavy blonde bob teamed with a classic scarlet red lip and silver smokey eyes - the perfect look to channel at our next Christmas party.
Jennifer Lawrence
We're loving Jennifer Lawrence's flawless combo of ice-blonde bob and smokey eyes - it's very '90s Kate Moss, no?

Kate Moss owns the smokey eye party look, taking her queues from Sixties bombshells Anita Pallenberg, Marianne Faithfull and Brigitte Bardot.
Kendall Jenner
Taking a leaf out of big sister Kim's book, Kendall rocks the ultra-defined smokey eye with heaps of eye liner and false lashes.
Kim Kardashian
All of the Kardashian clan are famed for their makeup expertise, but none so much as Kim. Here she shows that more is sometimes more when it comes to beauty, pairing thick spider lashes with a statement red lip.
Kim Kardashian
We love Kim's deviation from her classic red carpet look with a gold-hued smokey eye, nude lip and centre-parted hair slicked back into a low ponytail.
Margot Robbie
Another classic example of the perfect red lippie teamed with simple hair and natural eyes from Margot Robbie.
Margot Robbie
Bronze-accented eye makeup is the perfect complement to Margot Robbie's beachy blonde waves and tanned complexion.
Rihanna
There are few looks that Rihanna can't pull off, thanks to her exquisite bone structure, so it's great to see her opting for a natural makeup look, emphasising those striking features. For that no makeup makeup affect, opt for primer to keep shine at bay and highlighter to accentuate your cheekbones, with a coating of clear mascara and slick of lipgloss for a healthy glow.

A high pony + bold red lip = the easiest but most affective makeup look for any party.
