The earliest iteration of a make-up palette dates back to around 3300 BC and was made out of compressed mud. Why am I telling you this? Because it just goes to show that firstly, those Egyptians knew what they were doing and secondly, thank goodness they did, for they've made our lives infinitely easier. For what would a beauty regime be without a make-up palette? A faff, that's what.
Great news, then, that Bobbi Brown has decided to bestow upon us all the gift of not one, but two brand new eyeshadow palettes – just in time for a spring clean of our make-up bags. Both limited edition, the first is the Ultra-Violet Eye Shadow Palette, full of lilacs and violets in both matte and metallic finishes. Given the proclivity for bright eyes, as seen at the likes of Erdem, Marc Jacobs and Giorgio Armani (who used lilac for the models' eyelids) for SS19, this is excellent timing.
The second is the Infra-Red Eye Shadow Palette, stocked with all manner of amber, bronze, burgundy and taupe shades to allow you to create the perfect sun-kissed look. Bronzer is back, in a big way, so I'll be channeling Altuzarra, Alberta Ferretti and Molly Goddard, who all championed a 70s-style, bronzed glow with eyes to match. I'm envisaging holiday cocktails at sundown, although in reality this will probably translate to a pub garden after work.
Still, at least it will only take mere minutes to transform my face. Just sweep and go, basically – if in doubt, have a look atBobbi Brown's website, which gives ideas of how to use the different shades together.
One of the greatest joys of these palettes is that there are shades to suit all skin tones and, while that should be a given, sadly still isn't when it comes to beauty. Bravo, Bobbi Brown – it seems the brand has delivered on all fronts.
