The 6 Beauty Products You Should Be Keeping In The Fridge
GALLERY>> THE BEAUTY PRODUCTS TO KEEP IN YOUR FRIDGE
1. Eye Gels
Any anti-puff eye serums or gels work infinitely better when they’ve been in the fridge. The cooler temperature will instantly help to reduce swelling and will be super refreshing on tired skin, too.
2. Nail Polish
As nail guru Jin Soon explains, “Because high temperatures activate a formula's solvents, making the lacquer thick and gooey, keeping it cool extends its shelf life and helps the polish to apply more smoothly." Keep your polishes in the fridge, fellow manicure fiends!
3. Products With Vitamins A and C
If a product contains heat-unstable vitamins like C and A and has already been opened, the active ingredients will become inactive faster at elevated temperatures. The solution? Pop them in the fridge.
4. Facial Mists
Grazia’s health and beauty director Liz Hambleton is never without her trusty Caudalie Beauty Elixir and always keeps it cool in the fridge in the summer months. Perfect for cooling down at the end of the day or after a workout.
5. Eye and Lip Pencils
Place your eyeliner (and lip pencil if you use it) in the fridge 30-40 minutes before you need to use them. The result? A perfectly firm pencil for a super-accurate finish.
6. Perfume
The enemies of fragrance are air, heat and light- they react with scent to make it change, causing it to smell less fresh and often sour. So even though your perfume bottles look super pretty lined up in your bathroom, it’s time to stash them away to seriously prolong their shelf life.
Open up our fridge, root around behind the Greek yoghurt, blueberries and various jars of pesto and you might just happen to stumble across the odd beauty product. But before you call us crazy, bear in mind that storing certain beauty products in the fridge not only enhances the feel-good factor of applying a product (hello cold gel on hungover eyes) but can also make it last longer to boot. Think moisturisers, waterproof mascaras and even nail varnishes- stashing them away in the cool depths of the fridge can make them last way beyond their bathroom cabinet life, where the steam of the shower and humid conditions do no favours to your beauty heroes.
And we’re clearly not the only ones in on this beauty secret- recent research shows that three million women across the UK are already treating their fridge as the ultimate beauty weapon, using it to store their products, according to new studies released by Samsung and online retailer ao.com.

According to beauty expert Jenny Frankel, the fridge is the ultimate way to safeguard your products, especially waterproof formulas which contain ‘volatile actives’. “Heat accelerates volatility and the drying out of a product,” Frankel explains, “so fridge storage could help a waterproof product last longer.” But remember that not all products benefit from being chilled- things like Moroccan oil, face oils, silicone primers and even liquid foundation can solidify in the fridge, so store these at room temperature.
