Kicking S/S’20 fashion month off with a beauty bang, New York did not disappoint. From Sloane ranger to inter-galactic punk rocker, here’s our round up of the best and boldest beauty looks that you can recreate now…

Neon Brights

Featuring heavily in this week’s roster were bold and bright painted eyes. Chromat’s models alternated between a neon yellow and blue pairing, and a more diffused red, while Helmut Lang’s runway tribe flaunted pink, yellow and green liner. Never one to be outdone, Jeremy Scott’s SS20 show provided serious Instagram fodder with sci-fi worthy pastel wigs and graphic glow-in-the-dark shades of shadow to match.

Think neon isn’t for you? Think again and try easing your way in to colourful territory with a slick of neon liner in a fuchsia pink or cobalt blue. For extra pop try layering your chosen colour over a white liner base.

90s Hair Accessory

The Tory Burch SS20 show proved that 90s hair accessories are well and truly back in business with a headline-grabbing hair comb revival. Hair stylist Guido Palau’s ode to London’s Sloaney set has captured imaginations the world over. Expect to see pimped up versions taking up high street shelf space soon.

For a modern take on this 90s look, opt for brightly coloured combs paired with a slight kink or wave.

Embellished Eyes

Embellishment always gets a look-in when it comes to backstage beauty antics at fashion week and New York’s Spring offering has proved no exception. AREA went the whole hog with drop-like diamante arrangements around models’ eyes, as well as the odd chainmail beard. No, really. NARS’ team, headed up by Global Artistry Director Sada Ito, stripped it back at ADEAM to a glistening diamante duo on the outer corner of each eye.

For everyday wear, try a simple diamante rhinestone on the out corner of the eyes to really open them and make the whites pop.

Beautiful Braids

Back on the hair highway, Lauren Philippon treated us to long and chunky plaits interwoven with wide strips of floral fabric, while the runway at Pyer Moss saw cornrows and box braids adorned with gold jewellery from designer Johnny Nelson. The entire Pyer Moss show was a celebration of black culture, and the hair jewellery featured the faces of 21 iconic black women in music, including Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone and Beyoncé.

The Big Smoke

Tom Ford’s tribute to the 80s new wave movement is definitely a look we can get behind. The sultry, smoky eyes, created by make-up artist Diane Kendal, paired with the electrified, edgy-punk up-do was a match made in rock-chick heaven. Over at Brandon Maxwell, Tom Pecheaux created a glossy, gunmetal eye using MAC spellbinder eye shadows.

Top tip? To dial it down for every day wear, keep the rest of your base fresh-faced and minimal with a little concealer and peachy nude lip.

Slick It Back

Wet hair was big last season and it’s back again in full force. Spotted at Prabal Gurung, slicked back roots gleamed under the spotlights– misted heavily with Bumble and Bumble’s Suma Spray Wax. Sleek, shiny three-strand plaits swung down the Self Portrait runway.

The best way to create wet hair is to not actually wet the hair – instead layer mists, oils and waxes to get the latex, super shine.
