From statement burgundy smoke to luxe crimson lips, the AW19 runways revelled in the return of rich, autumnal tones and a dark, moody take on make-up. And it’s good news for all: “New innovative formulations mean this spectrum of shades can work wonders for everyone,” promises Chanel make-up artist, Zoe Taylor – the brains behind the looks you see here. So shake off your inhibitions, dust off your brushes and get experimental with placement, bold pigments and power combos…
Crimson's Calling...
Matte makes way for metallics this season. Think sumptuous jewel-inspired tones and a perfectly etched shape. “I love to add a dab of metallic just to the centre of the lips for the illusion of a poutier shape,” says Zoe. Let your lips take centre stage by playing down your eyes with a slick of mascara, but be sure to put your best bushy brows forward.
Ice, Ice Baby...
Channel your inner ice queen with a blur of sub-zero sheen and shimmer on your lids. The silvery hue is pretty, but blending it from lash line to brow is undeniably striking. Zoe finished by brushing the brows skywards to really open up the eyes.
Lashings Of Drama...
Fully loaded lashes give your makeup a moody edge. “Curl the lashes and then ply them with layers upon layers upon layers of mascara,” says Zoe. “Apply the final layer with a small eyeshadow brush to build, coax and push the lashes upwards.”
Gloss Over...
You can load a slick of shine over any shade but this season try a bold jet black for the ultimate vinyl eye. Gloss can lighten the colour beneath, so go dark before adding shine. And get the eyeshadow shade and shape perfect underneath, “once the gloss goes on there’s no tweaking time,” warns Zoe.
