'Tampon Nails' - The New Nail Art Trend Taking Over Instagram

Nail art has come a long way since the French manicure. The detail in some designs I see on my Instagram feed is becoming so intricate that it’s beyond me, and my patience to try myself. Hats off to you nail artists out there, you have fully changed the game. The design possibilities are endless nowadays, which makes getting a manicure a lengthy process. You want Beyoncé’s face on your nails? No problem. How about 3D sushi? Child’s play. I honestly thought that I had seen pretty much everything by this point. But oh, how wrong I was.

Annelies Hofmeyr, a Canadian nail artist has got Instagram hyped over her ‘tampon nails’. I’ve got to commend her on the imaginative and unique idea, and she’s got the details down to a tee. The nails are designed with a white base and vibrant red ‘blood splatters’ that look as if they’re dripping down the nail. She’s even attached pastel blue string on the end - not too practical, but a nice touch.



She said on her Instagram: ‘I really don’t understand why my tampon nails never became a trend’. And she’s right, why not break down the taboo of periods? Not only are you promoting girl power, but also getting a cute new manicure in the process. Only thing we're not so sure about is how practical those string bits will prove to be...
