SS16’s Biggest Hair Trends: And What They Mean For You

SS Hair Trends

by Rebecca Cox |

SS16 is upon us. Make sure your locks are new-season ready with our guide to the biggest trends of the season.

Before you hit the salon track this season’s hottest hair trends with our handy guide to all things chic in the world of tresses (we’ve got new hairstyle ideas, straight off the catwalk, a-plenty). In brief: Bangs are back; curls are cool; daring short cuts are super-chic; bold brights are replaced with natural pastel shades and nothing says ‘I’m-so-nailing-SS16’ like primping up your look with an oversized hair accessory. Allow us to expand…

More bang for your buck

Go bold or go home when it comes to bangs

Fringes are making a comeback for SS16, and the good news is that when it comes to style, you can take your pick. If you suit full block fringes, take inspiration from the girls on Giorgio Armani’s SS16 catwalk with their clip-in side-swept full-fat bangs. If you’re feeling more daring we spotted achingly-cool cropped fringes at Roberto Cavalli, Giles and Fendi. Classic full-frontal fringes were the order of the day at Topshop Unique, worn in ice-cool grey (a colour trend hangover from AW15).

Curl it

Embrace your natural curl (or, you know, fake it)

SS16’s hair trends are all about embracing (and enhancing) your natural beauty, so if you’re blessed with voluminous curls or wayward waves, own them this season. We loved the OTT side-swept curls at Diane Von Furstenberg (hello, date night hair) and the beach-worthy waves at Stella McCartney.

…Or, play it straight

P-p-p-p-poker straight

Likewise, if you’re a poker-straight kinda girl, make it work for you this season. Polished pressed locks were the order of the day at a number of shows, most notably Jonathon Saunders, who sent his girls down the runway with side-swept don’t-mess-with-me tresses.

Short cuts

Short hair. Don't care.

According to Ollie Blackaby, Art Ambassador for Headmasters, bold colour trends are out this season to be replaced with daring short cuts that make a statement. Take the closely cropped styles spotted backstage at Bottega Veneta and Isabel Marant. Do you dare?

Accessorise

Accessories at Dolce & Gabbana SS16

The easiest way to pep up your look for SS16 without stepping foot in a salon, is to tap into the season’s accessories trend. Think floral printed silk scarves worn looped around a loose bun, wedding-guest-worthy embellished headpieces or a few fresh florals clipped behind the ear. A pair of oversized cat eye sunnies ought to do the trick, too…

Braid it

Romantic braids are back for SS16

As always, spring is the perfect time to bring a little romance with a pretty plaid or braid. Forget tricky fishtails and pesky pancake braids, keep things simple with side-slung plaits and braided up-dos – the messier the better.
