Last show season, back in February of this year, you couldn't move for pearl hair accessories. London, in particular, had embraced this pretty trend like no other and a host of slides, clips and headbands suddenly appeared on the heads of fashion's most influential. If you thought this was a flash-in-the-pan, blink and you'll miss it, passing fad, you were wrong. New York Fashion Week is in full swing and, if its guests are anything to go by, pearly hair adornments are very much alive and kicking.
You can really blame Simone Rocha for this one. Her oversized clips put pearls back on the map and, before long, everyone followed suit. There were a thousand homages on the high street and, thanks to the likes of Prada making headbands one of the most coveted accessories of last season, pearls started decorating other hair trinkets, too.
At New York Fashion Week this week, there have been countless sightings of pearly clips, padded headbands studded with pearls and dainty slides worn with statement sunglasses. This only helped to remind me of the irresistible allure of such an accessory – not only does it look pretty, it's also a very easy way to get away with not doing your hair.
Trust me, as possibly the laziest woman on Earth – when it comes to my hair, anyway – I found that my purchase of some oversized, pearl hair clips was one of the best I've ever made. Yes, I am known to be prone to exaggeration but nonetheless, I really do mean that.
So, if you haven't already, invest in one of New York's most prolific trends without so much as leaving your chair. What a treat.
