New York Fashion Week has come to a close for the season and while collecting our thoughts on the fashion and beauty trends emerging from the last seven days of shows one thing is abundantly clear: there’s a new way to wear your hair. We’re dubbing it ‘zero care hair’ for designers and their stylists have collectively agreed that we should spend more time snoozing and less time faffing with our locks.
Marc Jacobs closed NYFW with a triumphant catwalk return by Christy Turlington. She looked glorious in a feather black gown. Perhaps the glamour was amplified by her fluffy hat-hair, or, more likely, the appeal was driven from the fact it made the whole extraordinary ensemble more relatable. It wasn’t just Marc Jacobs that backed the chilled out hair look, at Rachel Comey the models had their hair slightly fluffed but didn’t tamper with their natural texture. Similarly, at Proenza Schoulerstylists simply gave the models a centre parting and tucked the front strands behind their ears. Meanwhile at Helmut Lang and Proenza Schouler these lazy day looks took on a punkish quality with swabs of gel roughly pulled through the roots. The result? A modern-day mullet, which is another way of saying ' care' hair.
As showgoers board their flights to London for the next round of shows, we wonder just how much time they spent perfecting their hair this morning. If designers can skip the extream up-dos and arduous poker straight blow dries, arguably there is hope for us all. Team Grazia is certainly happy to retire the irons and enjoy a good old lie-in instead.
