63% Of Men Who Think Women Wear Makeup To Trick Them

If you woke up this morning and innocently covered a blemish, practised a smoky eye, or threw on some red lipstick in order to make yourself feel more awake, then apparently you're guilty of tricking men into thinking you're pretty. Yep, a study by YouGov has revealed that a whopping 63% of men, believe that the sole reason women wear makeup is to deceive men into thinking they're more attractive than they are. And we're calling bullshit.

Firstly, we would like to say that wearing makeup isn't deceptive or a form of trickery - on the contrary, it's actually a form of self-expression and artistry. Do those guys really know how many years it takes to perfect a cat eye flick, or how skilled you need to be to blend the perfect contour? We don't think so. And even if we were using makeup to deceive them, we think it's fair to say that it's on them if they fall for it (see exhibit A, below).

While yes, some women do use makeup to flatter their face or emphasise or hide certain features, why would anyone assume this was a ruse to trick men? It may just be a way to boost their self-confidence. Relatably, the YouGov survey found that 53% of women strongly agree that the media holds them to unrealistic beauty standards - so men, if you want to blame anyone for your woes on women wearing makeup, blame the media.

And what's more, if we're allowed to express our individuality through things like fashion, photography and music, why aren't we allowed to do the same with makeup, without it having to somehow relate back to pleasing men?

Now, as we wrap up our rant, we would just like to end by clearing up any confusion as to why the majority of us we really wear makeup:
