It's safe to say that so far, 2017 has been a year of weird (and sometimes wonderful) beauty trends. So far, we've been graced with cannabis beauty products and emoji face masks, and now, we're being treated to mechanical robot nail art.
Yep, robot-inspired nail art that actually moves has been created, and our brains just cannot cope. The 'Transformer' designs are the brainchild of nail artist Tony Ly, who has taken a mechanical approach to manicures.
Tony uses Instagram to showcase his futuristic designs, which feature nails with a spinning wheel, and a manicure with a 3D, moving ladybird:
We struggle to perfectly paint our nails a simple shade of red, let along engineer the flapping motion of a ladybird's wings (which, by the way, work thanks to a tiny axel at the base of the nail which is placed beneath the two wings). We reckon that you would literally need a scientific degree in order to recreate this.

Other designs include black stiletto nails that have small silver beads that slide up and down a metal wire detail. We know, bizarre.
Of course, although Tony's designs are pretty impressive, they're not very practical, and in all honestly, we'd much rather stick to our boring, traditional gel manicures.
