Spring is here! Sure, the weather may not have realised yet but the clock’s going forward say so, and that’s good enough for me.

At this time of year, you start realising that you’ve been living a monochrome life for six months. Colour? What's that? So I've decided that a new season calls for a new wardrobe, because that all-black combo you (and I) have been living in for the last six months just isn’t going to cut it in April.

This season it’s all about the softer brights and subtle pastels, and warm shades. Basically, The Seventies (in case you missed show season). And when you’re buying new clothes, it’d be rude not to snap up a few new make-up bits just to complete the look.

But what coloured lips should you be wearing with your new threads? Here’s our top four colour matches so you can match your lippy to your tee.

**Grey + ****Scarlet **

Red

Correct me if I’m wrong (I’m not), but everyone loves a grey tee, or just grey anything but, it can be so boring. Instead of going all-over plain, wear it with a scarlet red lip like the Bourjois Rouge Edition AQUA Laque in 'Feeling Reddy' and grey instantly becomes sassy.

Rose + Burgundy

Burgundy for Spring? Groundbreaking. No, seriously. Burgundy typically seems like a wintery colour but in keeping with the boho vibe, purples were everywhere at Derek Lam. Wear it with a pinky nude lip like the Bourjois Rouge Edition AQUA Laque in 'Rosé on the rocks' to pretty it up and stops you looking too Morticia Addams.

Coral + White

If you don’t own a white t-shirt, it’s time to re-evaluate your wardrobe (and your life) because it’s a total fashion staple. White goes with everything but we paired it with a coral pink lip using the Bourjois Rouge Edition AQUA Laque in 'Babe Idole' for the ultimate peppy spring look.

Plum + Sand

The catwalks were crawling with beige this season (OK, they don't call it beige - they call it sand, ecru, camel). And beige doesn’t mean boring when it’s worn with a stand-out lip. You see, I’m calling BS on the idea that dark lips are just for winter: go glossy (which, FYI, was at the Ashley Williams show) rather than matte using Bourjois Rouge Edition AQUA Laque in 'Brun’croyable' because it’ll keep them from looking too heavy.

Bourjois NEW Rouge Edition Aqua Laque Liquid Lipstick, is available in tonnes of reds, pinks and nudes, to suit whatever you’re up to. They’re available from Boots and Boots.co.uk, £8.99 each
