Going to a Halloween party last minute but no white facepaint/fake blood/zombie mask? Look no further than the dark recesses of your own makeup bag (or makeup of your colleagues/mates if you're one of those incredible people who never wear anything other than a light BB cream now and again). Whether you're aiming for subtly-spooky-while-still-sexy, really gross or eerie, there's a makeup look here for you. And it can be done in, like, five minutes max.

Red lipstick, foundation (if you can nab one from your lighter-skinned friend, that works even better), eyeliner (pencil and liquid), lipliner and a black/dark coloured eyeshadow are all you need. Mix and match wherever you fancy (take the contouring from the Scary Doll Clown Carnival Thing and match it with the Subtle But Still Sexy Thing That Eats People, for example) Failing these, you can just draw a bat on your cheek or something.

Oh, and I tried to make bat wings but the attempt failed. I'm barely a makeup person let alone a haberdasherist ffs.

The Subtle But Still Sexy Thing That Eats People

Red lipliner in the inner rims of your eyes makes this sort of gross, but you can skip that if you want to.

The Dead Thing

A good one if you're not planning on pulling. But, and I don't want to be a dick, I once snogged someone with a face not dissimilar to this and - bonus - when you see them without the Dead Thing makeup, they'll think you're SUPER hot in comparison.

The Doll Clown Carnival Thing

Always a winner. Team with plaits (the higher up, the spookier) and a creepy babydoll dress. White tights optional, but encouraged.

For those who wan to push the boundaries and go a bit grosser (note the reappearance of the red lipliner on the inner rims of the eye. A winner that one - and a big thankyou to my mum who taught me how to do this). Eyeliner markers are easier for this, but you can still get a good effect with liquid liner. And, if you don't have black or dark brown eyeshadow for the contouring, then use some kohl and vaseline. Blend, blend, blend.
