Up-do’s are like the red lipstick of hair: They’re timeless and sophisticated…but really easy to mess up. Pick the wrong shade or forget the lip liner and you’ve got a problem. Equally frustrating, the up-do may sound approachable, chic and like something from old Hollywood, but in reality, it’s about as easy to get right as a Mensa test. Proving her powers of genius, J Lo recently breathed new life into this scene-stealing hairstyle with a look inspired by one very famous model.
Credited to hairstylist Chris Appleton, who is responsible for Kim Kardashian West’s hair transformations, it’s a complex twist of plaits and knots that recalls a certain iconic 1960s supermodel. Giving away the inspiration in her Instagram caption, Lopez wrote, ‘Veruschka vibes…’
The German-born 6ft 3in supermodel who starred in Michelangelo Antonioni’s cult ’66 film Blow Up reached icon status when photographer Franco Rubartelli captured her with braid’s ringing her face. Less practical than J Lo’s rendition, it’s every bit as striking.
While we won’t be attempting Veruschka’s anytime soon, we know we’re be stealing J Lo’s look next time we get a chance.
