Cast your mind back, way back when. The days when January consisted of three things: showing your friends your Christmas presents after the holidays (‘kay not that much has changed), stocking up on scented gel pens and allowing your mother to style your hair in record time before school.
If you were a ‘90s kid, you’ll no doubt have experimented with the hair ribbon - in an assortment of colours - wrapped around your plaits, ballerina-style buns, ponytails…you get the picture.
And it appears that the childhood accent is being revived by fashion’s favourite ‘It’ girls on Instagram, including Leandra Medine, Pandora Sykes and Andrea Lublin.
The #TBT hair trend was first spotted on the SS17 runway in September - with designers from Erdem to Monique Lhuillier sporting a cool-over of the classic look, with black ribbon knotted into a bow. So. Simple. And, most recently, at Chanel’s 13th annual Metier’s d’Art show in Paris.
But rather than the Bardot bouffant and large black bow combination, this season’s nod to the nostalgic ‘do is a softer version of this sixties vibe (think slightly messy, loose and low ponytails this season).
This is also the most affordable fashion detail we’ve seen since shoe laces were being worn as chokers (sorry, we can’t get on board with this trend). Old ribbons in your Christmas storage box? DIG THEM OUT NOW.
Fash-un just got seriously thrifty.
