These Gummy Bears Can Help You Tan – But What The F Is In Them?

And do they actually work? We have a lot of questions...

Tan Gummies – every tanners new BFF

Tanning brand Utan & Tone has created the world’s first edible tanning supplement.

Tan Gummies help to accelerate and enhance the perfect bronzed glow to pale skin, with or without the sun. They’re raspberry flavoured, don’t contain any artificial flavours and are even gluten free and suitable for vegans. It all seems too good to be true.

How Do They Work?

The gummy bears are used as a supplement. You can suck or swallow 2 a day and for optimum tan accelerating results, take them for 2 weeks before sun exposure. Perfect if you’ve got an Easter break planned.

However, if you’re just looking for a light golden colour and don’t want to go too OTT, take 2 a day for 3-4 weeks and reduce this to 1 a day, when you’ve reached a tone you’re happy with.

Here comes the science-y bit. Tone Gummies allow potent actives to be stored in your mouth for a considerable amount of time, resulting in direct absorption through your cheek walls. They claim to be more powerful than anything else on the market right now and are made up of essential plant nutrients.

What Exactly Are They Made Up of, Though?

I’m so glad you asked. They’re a little different to your standard gummy bear, as they don’t contain all the bad stuff. They’re actually made up of purified water, vitamins C, E and A (natural beta-carotene), sunflower oil, natural (raspberry) flavourings and Carnauba wax. The wax is made from the leaves of palm trees. See, I told you they’re vegan.

Where Can I Get Them From?

[Superdrug](https://www.superdrug.com/Skin/Fake-Tan-%26-Bronzing/Self-Tanning/UTan-Tan-Gummies--1-Month-Supply-Vegan/p/754985p/754985) have bought a month’s supply of Tan Gummies and are even selling them at a discounted price. They’ve sold out online but you can still get them from your nearest store. Alternatively, you can get them from the Utan & Tone online store, for £18.

Who Can Use Them?

The gummy bears are for over 18s only and there are obvious restrictions if you’re pregnant, nursing or taking any other medication. If you have any other medical conditions, Utan urge you to consult your GP. Also, if you’re a heavy smoker, seek out your GP before taking any supplements with beta-carotene in them.

Do They Actually Work?

It’s still early days as they only launched a couple of weeks ago. So far, people seem to be really excited about them. I suppose only time will tell us whether they work.

B12

Vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins can play a role in producing mood-affecting brain chemicals and low levels of these may be linked to depression. If you have a poor diet and the body can not absorb enough B vits, your mood can be severely affected. Getting a blood test will determine how much of the B goodness you have in your system, and whether you need to stock up. B vitamins are found in animal products like milk, fish, meat and eggs, so if you are a vegan, you should definitely be getting your B's from dietary supplements and vitamins.

Tryptophan

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid which you get through food such as bananas, tamarind, oats, sesame seeds, kiwi and watermelon. Once in the body, it converts to niacin, serotonin and melatonin. St John Wort

St John's Wort has been around for yonks and is one of the most popular natural methods used for dealing with stress, anxiety and depression. It's a plant with yellow flowers. There has been some scientific evidence that St. John's wort may be helpful in treating mild depression. It's been claimed that it works just like regular antidepressants in that it inhibits the reuptake of the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
