Sometimes the world will throw a wrench in your plans - like there’s this amazing party on a Wednesday, the music is everything you’ve ever dreamed of, and the people look like they’re from another planet you can only dream of. Of course, you’ve got an early lecture Thursday - and by the way, the future love of your life is in your class - so you'll want to look kind of cute. Still dancing at 3am, however, and your skin’s not having it. Do you give up? Obviously not! This DIY facial’s got you covered.

Remove all evidence

The most important part of looking presentable is making sure every trace of yesterday’s smudged mascara is removed completely. Lipstick that’s migrated to your chin and foundation caked into your pores are also tell-tale signs that you did not spend last night revising the last chapter of your psychology text book.

To remedy this situation, simply pour some Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, £5.99 for 100ml, Boots.com, to a cotton pad, wipe over the face, eyes and lips and watch yesterday’s regrets instantly disappear.

Wash and exfoliate

Now that you’ve got a clean base to work with, it’s time to exfoliate. If you’re fancy, you may already own a facial exfoliating brush, like Soap & Glory’s A Brush With Greatness, £5, Boots.com, Place a small amount of Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Exfoliating Face Scrub, £4.50 for 150ml, Boots.com on the brush and gently massage your dampened face with the bristles for a deep clean. Enjoy the sensation and try to pretend you are in a fancy spa instead of in halls where someone is screaming at you for taking too long in the toilet.

Mask it up

Now that your skin is prepped and primed, it’s time to apply a face mask to soothe and deep clean. Boots Essentials Cucumber 3 Minute Clay Mask, £1.50 for 50ml, Boots.com, is perfect for unclogging pores, especially for spot prone skin.

If you're stuck for time, the Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Nose Strips, £6 for 6, Boots.com, are great for lifting dirt and oil out of pores in that area, then apply Skin Clear Ultra Rapid Action Spot Gel, £3 for 25ml, Boots.com, to help calm any blemishes.*

Magical serums

Now that your face is glowing, it’s time to lock some goodness into your skin. Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser, £3.80 for 125ml, Boots.com, can help to moisturise your skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth!

If you’re after something that's a bit more of an investment, No7 Protect and Perfect ADVANCED Serum, £26.95 for 30ml, Boots.com, is it. There’s a reason this stuff’s a cult favourite and it’s mostly because it will make your skin look as smooth as a pre-teen pageant winner’s.

If you’ve gotten this far, any tell-tale signs of a big night should now be completely erased. Now go get a coffee, pretend you’ve slept for 8 hours, and keep this guide handy for next week.

You know what's great? Order at boots.com or in store today by 8pm and collect free in store from 12pm tomorrow so you don't even have to leave the comfort of your halls.
