We’ve already discussed WTF you’re doing going on a Valentine’s Day date tonight. But if you are – or even if you’re staying in to binge on all 13 hours of House of Cards season two – here’s a fun way to give yourself date-night-nails. Which, btw are the perfect you-haven’t-tried-too-hard-but-equally-you’re-not-a-V-day-hater (wow – mouthful) concession to Valentine’s Day dressing.

Heart-tipped and sugary-pink they’re inspired by the mani Jessica Alba got in LA’s boutique nail salon esNAIL and posted on Instagram yesterday. But easy enough to do in front of the TV. Revlon’s nail expert Jenny Longworthtalks you through it:

Step One

Remove old polish and prepare your nails with a base coat to prevent the colour from staining your nails and help your design last longer.

Step Two

Apply a coat of Nail Enamel in Pink Nude, £6.49, Revlon all over the nail to act as your base colour and allow to dry.

Step Three

Here comes the creative part; using a nail art striper brush (you can pick these up on eBay), draw in a small heart shape on the tip (or like in Jenny’s version here on the outer corner of the nails) using a punchy pink shade. Nail Enamel in Cherries in the Snow, £6.49, Revlon would work well. Once you’re happy with the outline of your hearts fill them in with the same shade.

Step Four

Using a clean nail art striper brush – and a steady hand - outline the heart shapes using Nail Enamel in White on White, £6.49, Revlon.

Step Five

Once everything is dry seal everything in with a hardwearing top coat.
