How To Cure A Dry Itchy Flakey Scalp

A lot of people think they have dandruff when they don’t, fact. Many believe that the little flakes of skin they see dotted along their hairline, littering their shoulders is dandruff, which is a type of bacteria fungi when it just plain isn’t. However, more of us than we’d like to admit, suffer from dry, itchy, flaky scalps.

The symptoms are obvious, but the causes can be quite varied. Washing your hair with too hot or too cold water, overusing product or your diet can affect the state of your scalp. Though we wash our hair diligently, how many of us can say we pay as much attention to our scalp? The brains at Aveda have created an at-home and an in-salon treatment that will help rejuvenate the skin on your scalp to help your hair grow faster, stronger and healthier.

How’s It Work?

Aveda has a theory that we spend a lot of time and money caring for the skin on our face, but forget that the same skin is hidden under our hair. After sweating it out at the gym or being exposed to pollution out roots, like our pores can get oily, waxy and blocked. With that mind, they’ve created a three step process to give your scalp a detox.

So they advise once a fortnight using their Pramāsana™ treatment. It starts with a brush that works like an exfoliator. By using it to massage your scalp (with a figure of eight motion) rather than brushing your hair, it will loosen the existing flakes. Then a scalp cleanser is recommended before shampooing that cleanses the freshly exfoliated skin. This can then be followed by a protective scalp serum that uses seaweed extract and tamanu oil to control sebum levels on the scalp and protect it from pollution. It sounds like a lot, but it only adds minutes on to your routine.

How Does The Salon Treatment Differ From The At-Home Solution?

Not really, except an expert does it for you and will then apply a tailored hair mask to your scalps specifications.

How Much Does It Cost?

Aveda-Anti-Dandruff-Hair-Care-Products2

Pramāsana™ exfoliating scalp brush, £16.50

Pramāsana™ purifying scalp cleanser, £23.50

Pramāsana™ protective scalp concentrate, £35

Is It Worth It?

It works, so yes. But, if you’re unsure about spending that much at once you can start with the brush and build up.
