A-listers are regularly switching up their hair. One minute it’s a chin-grazing bob, and the next, Rapunzel lengths - which often come courtesy of hair extensions. Spotted among the Hollywood circuit time and time again, hair extensions carry out a number of jobs – whether it’s adding volume, a lot more length or a new style altogether (take Ariana Grande’s sky-high ponytail). Yet, as of late, we’re noticing more and more stars are ditching their faux hair in favour of going au natural. Maybe it’s because their glam squad are not yet accessible, or they’ve enjoyed the enforced lower maintenance life in lockdown – whatever the reason, it’s refreshing to see. And perhaps what’s more refreshing is how honest said celebrities are being about their decision to remove/or wear hair extensions.

Rewind to earlier this year, and you’ll remember when Khloe Kardashian shared a photo on Instagram of an entire wardrobe dedicated to her hair extensions. Jam-packed with pink, auburn and red hairpieces along with wig stands showcasing a variety of styles – it’s no wonder she’s such a hair chameleon.

Just this week Jessica Simpson decided to go extension free, sharing with her 5.5 million followers a selfie of her natural hair. She captioned the image: 'This is blurry, but good Lord I love to be extension free.' Alesha Dixon also just shared her entire haircare routine for adding bounce and definition to her natural curls that we don't often see, with the caption: 'My natural curls have been getting a lot of love over the last few months!'

If you're also contemplating going extension free, take inspiration from our round-up of a few favourite examples where celebrities have ditched the extensions and showcased their natural hair.

How To Care For Your Hair After Extensions

Stevie Holland, Extensions specialist at SALON64, shares her top tips and tricks for maintaining healthy hair post-extensions.

Tip 1: Regular treatments

'Use a treatment or mask at least once a week and let it sit and soak into mid-lengths to ends. If your hair is weak or broken, I'd recommend Olaplex, £26. If it's dry and dull, opt for a hydrating product like R+Co HIGH DIVE Moisture + Shine Crème, £24.50.

Tip 2: Take care when hair is wet

'When hair is wet, it's far more vulnerable to breakage - so treat it gently. Don’t rub excessively with a towel and use a wide-tooth comb or a Tangle Teezer, £12, to detangle. Brushing from the roots can cause damage so always brush from the bottom and work up, especially if you have long hair.'

Tip 3: Regular hair cuts

'Get your hair cut regularly, every 8-12 weeks to keep hair healthy and prevent split ends.'
