When it comes to at-home beauty treatments, I’m an old hand. I’ve mixed my own salt face scrubs, I’ve doused my hair in home-whipped avocado hair moisturisers and I’ve destroyed my blender making a body-buffing coffee exfoliator. But, I wasn’t quite ready for the full-on effects of Zero Skin’s Caviar Black Peel-Off T-Zone Mask. While the packaging is slick and the product is excellent – no messing, it’s really tremendous – it’s very messy. The thick black sticky, gloopy clay gets everywhere, even places you swear you didn’t go near (hello, white bedspread). So, proceed with caution…
What’s In It?
Caviar Extract, Kaolin Clay, Amino Acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Cherry Extract, Liquorice Extract, DHA, Collagen
What’s It Promise?
Smaller pores, less dead skin, cleaning of blackheads and a collagen boost to minimise the appearance of wrinkles.
How’s It Go On?
If you’ve tried a peel-off facemask before you’ll be familiar with this process. It starts with squirting a pebble-sized portion of the mask onto your fingertips, you then have to spread it over your face (avoiding the obvious bits: eyes, mouth, nostrils, eyebrows). The trick is to work fast so that you get an evenly spread layer on that will dry and the same time. This product is very viscose and my application was shambolic. I didn’t tie my hair up – rookie mistake – so flyaway strands got literally stuck in the mud. While I was trying to micromanage this mess up, I lost pace and suddenly had to race to get the mask on the other side of my face. But, I was too late, and my right side dried a good five minutes before my left.
Is It Easy To Peel Off?
Be prepared for a wave of pain. For this mask to work, it has to hurt. Once the mask dries – and you’ll know it will have because your face will feel tight and the kaolin layer will begin to peel up at the edges – you have to pull it away from the skin. Sadly, it doesn’t feel like tugging off a plaster, if anything it’s most similar to the rip of eyebrow wax. Wherever there are fine hairs on your skin – for me that’s literally everywhere – there is hurt. But, the results are worth it as all your icky dead skin is ripped away and your smooth, newly stimulated face looks plump from the collagen the pores look smaller.
Was It Worth Its £24.99 Price Tag?
I’d definitely buy this again. Although, that could be in a while. I only used a little, and it went a long, long way, and as the bottle is quite substantial, I imagine I’ve got at least another 7-10 masks before it will run out. Overall, it does minimise the pores and give your T-zone a refreshed glow (once the redness of the peeling-off process dies down).
