Brigitte Bardot is known for her sultry, yet elegant style. During her youth, she was often spotted out donning her signature bouffant hairstyle and cat-eye look. And according to Pinterest, the iconic Brigitte Bardot hair trend is coming back into fashion.

The social media giant said that the percentage of "people saving ideas for Brigitte Bardot-inspired hair is up 42% since the beggining of the year." So, if this statistic is anything to go by, it would seem that beauty enthusiasts are looking for glamorous ways to upcycle their natural locks.

But, why the sudden interest in the Bardot style? Ana Gomes, stylist at Blush + Blow, explains...

"Classics [like the Bardot style] never go out of fashion. Brigitte's look is a very elegant hairstyle that suits all face shapes, and it's also really simple to create. As long as your hair is shoulder length, you can rock this look."

For a modernised version of the look, Ana advises you "add a simple, yet on trend braid on either side to bring this style up-to-date. Or, add a hair clip to the back, which can take the look from desk-to-dancefloor." Want to learn how to create this look at home? Follow Ana's simple step-by-step guide, below.

How to get Brigitte Bardot hair

PREP:

  1. Shampoo and condition your hair.

  2. Apply a root lift spray to create volume, then apply a nourishing oil to the ends.

  3. Start by rough-drying your hair. Then create a curl at the bottom of the hair using either a large-barrel curling tong or a hair-dryer.

CREATE:

  1. Section of an inch of hair from either side of your face.

  2. Section the rest of your hair into two pieces horizontally, (from around ear height) to create a half-up, half-up effect.

  3. Working on the top section, backcomb the hair using a thin comb to create a bouffant effect. Then, smooth back your backcombed hair with a soft brush to get rid of any lumps or bumps.

  4. Get your bobby pins at the ready: gather the top, backcombed section of hair, and fashion it into a bouffant at the back of your head. Then pin it in place.

  5. Decide whether you want a centre or side parting, which you can create using the front part of your hair that you sectioned in step one. Place this hair loosely away from the face, allowing any shorter layers to drop out on their own. Cross this hair over the previously pinned top section and secure in place with more bobby pins.

  6. Set your look with a medium hold hairspray. Et voilà!
