We're constantly asking ourselves, should we or should we not get a fringe. When Kaia Gerber walked the runway of Prada's SS19 show she firmly tipped the scales in favour of the fringe by reigniting the 'baby bangs' trend. Executing Betty Page's famous hairstyle may seem far from easy, but it's already lured in Arianna Grande, Duckie Thot and Beyonce (albeit briefly).

Though a fringe of any length takes a fair bit of maintenance, a mini-fringe is character-making. Whether roughly-chopped, softly featheed or straight and blunt, it requires so much attitude to pull off, the payoff is so much greater.

So, how do you find the right mini fringe to suit you? There's more to it than showing your hairdresser a celebrity picture from Pinterest, says hairstylists Polly and Paul Edmonds.

'You need to match your fashion style to complement the look. 'Baby bangs need to be worn with confidence. They don't let you hide from anything so you need to rock this look,' says Paul.

But your wardrobe is only the start. To make a micro fringe wearable, you have to work with your face shape, too.

Baby Bangs For A Round Face Shape

If your cheeks are wide and your features are soft and rounded, Paul warns 'a micro fringe creates a longer face shape.' He recommends telling your stylist that 'it needs to be cut narrow' to flatter.

Baby Bangs For A Heart Face Shape

We hope you’re feeling brave, heart shapes. If your face falls into this category, you need to fully commit to the mini-fringe. To balance out a broad forehead and a narrow chin, Paul says: 'have the fringe cut heavily, and ask that it's also heavily textured. That way the hair can be styled forward or swept to the side.'

Baby Bangs For A Square Face Shape

Use your defined jawline and wide cheekbones to your advantage by opting for bangs with a 'side or middle parting.' Turns out it’s a super-flattering way to enhance this face shape. Polly explains that 'it’s a great style to take away the edges of a square face – it creates a softer shape.'

Baby Bangs For An Oval Face Shape

Thought a micro fringe couldn’t work with a long face and rounded chin? It can, with a few simple styling tricks. Paul says it’s important to discuss the cut with your stylist first but 'if you have the fringe cut so it’s narrow' it will complement your features.

Baby Bangs For An Oblong Face Shape

Same goes for oblong faces. Whilst baby bangs could elongate the face even further, a snappy hairdresser tip means you can make the microwork for you too. Polly explains that it’s all in the way you move and shape the hair. 'Wearing the fringe to the side will create roundness. Brushing the hair forward will also create a heavier look on a longer face,' she says.
