Well you can, of course. But tongs, straighteners and good, old trusty hairdryers are the things you use daily, right? And are then left with a fear that they're fucking up your hair? You're not alone, and you're not wrong. Use with caution, and follow these beauty tips for frizz-free hair…

Dial Down The Temperature

When it comes to heat styling, everyone assumes the higher the temperature the better the result, but apply anything over 185 degrees to your hair and it will quite literally melt from the inside out and look as frazzled as when you light your fringe rather than your fag by mistake. Avoid the situation by investing in tools with temperature dials. WAM and Babyliss PROboth have excellent options.

Think Less Is More

We’ve all been guilty of going over and over the same bit of hair with a straightener or tongs, but doing so will damage not improve your ' do. In fact, the moment that hair sets into that perfect style (be it straight or perfectly curled), is not while it is heated but rather as it cools. Hence why hairdressers tong and pin a curl so that it can properly cool and form.

Set It, Don't Spray It

Don’t ever put hairspray on your hair and then heat it, this will make it fall out. Fast as. Hairspray is for setting your style not making it.

Invest In A Hair Mask

Bear in mind that frizzy hair is frizzy because it is knackered. Give you hair a day off when you can and take advantage of the brand-new breed of amazing conditioning masks on the market. Used twice weekly, they can restore even the crispiest hair to its former glory. Try Morocannoil Intense Hydrating Mask, £23.85, or Pureology Essential Repair, £19 – both are brilliant.

Use Protection

Without sounding like your mum/the boring one in a friendship group, using heat protection is the difference between having happy hair or something that’s altogether more scarecrow and straw-like. Redken Iron Shape 11, £11.80, is a backstage favourite, while L’Oreal Professionel Finish Techno Art Hot Style Constructor, £13, protects your hair and contains technology that allows you to effectively style using very little heat. If you're a fan of blow-dries, make best friends with Redken Pillow Proof, £12.60, which was used backstage at the Victoria Beckham show this season and seriously speeds up blow-dry time to reduce heat damage.

There you go. Happy hair!
