5 Jet-Setting Women Share Their Top Travel Beauty Tips

We don’t know about you, but we find keeping on top of a beauty regime in the summer months even harder than usual. You’re in an air-conditioned office one second, spending long sweaty weekends in the park the next – and battling to stop your hair from getting greasy from suncream on European beaches a week later. Summer: the struggle is all too real.

So we called upon women who’d laugh at our sorry red-faces as we dragged ourselves back to work after a week of sun cream drenched, cheese-filled over-indulgence. Because thanks to their jetsetter lifestyles, when it comes to summer regimes, these guys really know what they’re talking about. Here, they tell us all their travel beauty secrets.

Becky Tong, 24, co-founder of Juice Box

Daughter of DJ legend Pete Tong, Becky grew up travelling between the UK and Ibiza, and is now making her own name for herself behind the decks – as well as running Juice Box, the music company she co-founded. She’s a busy lady. So how does she keep her beauty routine in check whilst juggling two jobs and traversing the globe?

'Throughout the year I travel constantly,' says Becky. 'This summer I’ve been to Sardinia and the South of France for gigs, and I went to LA earlier this year. When I’m travelling one thing I can’t leave home without is dry shampoo. I don’t really wear make up that much when I’m travelling and I try and keep my hair out of my face. I think hygiene is so important when you’re travelling so I always try and carry natural hand sanitiser.'

Despite constantly being on the move, Becky isn’t one to sign up to the whole Kim Kardashian/Victoria Beckham the-airport-is-my-catwalk thing. 'I don’t really ever look that good when I’m travelling,' she says, laughing. 'There’s a couple of girls I know who DJ who travel in heels, and to be fair I definitely see the upside of doing that, you’re more likely to get upgraded… but I could never pull that together!'

Kathryn Fielding, 28, Nutritional Therapist and Yoga Instructor

When she’s not zooming off to run yoga retreats in far flung destinations, Kathryn is a Nutritional Therapist who focuses on stress and weight management. At home in London she also teaches yoga at Equinox, Core Collective and Workshop Gymnasium as well as corporate and private classes. So we figured she’d probably know what she’s talking about when it comes to self-care.

'Keep physically hydrated by drinking plenty of filtered water and coconut water, and avoid dehydrating caffeinated beverages,' suggests Kathryn. 'And eat foods naturally abundant in electrolytes such as bananas, spinach, kale and chia seeds. Noted.

'Having a natural, healthy glow and well hydrated skin comes from a balanced diet, regular exercise... and you won’t find me anywhere without Johnson's Baby Oil – for the softest skin post body brushing, Vaseline – for lips and keeping eyelashes in good condition when makeup has been removed, and L’Oreal BB Cream – for a daily glowing complexion with that crucial SPF.'

Victoria Van Holthe and Tansy Aspinall, 26, co-founders of Tada & Toy

When the co-founders of your soon-to-be favourite jewellery brand aren’t in residence at their Latimer Road office, you’ll find them flying off to India – where their jewellery is made. Here are their long haul beauty tips.

'We spend most of our time in Jaipur (The City of Gems) which is where our workshops are based,' says Victoria. 'Our tips for dealing with a long haul journey is always drink a ton of water before, during and after the flight! Also, don’t wear makeup and take a rescue balm – Liz Earle has a great one – and keep moisturising.'

'I have very thick hair which can get unruly on a long flight so I always brings a scrunchy which avoids kinks and is comfy to travel in,' adds Tansy. 'We both keep it simple and like the barely there look when it comes to makeup.'

And then there's the crucial sleep issue. 'Try to get into a normal sleep pattern whatever the time zone, ignore the time at home and try and stick to the new time zone,' suggests Tansy. 'This helps jet lag and the more sleep you manage to get the better your skin will feel.'

Bloom Twins, Musicians, 20

The Ukrainian-born English duo Bloom Twins are your quintessential musical ingenues. Made up of twin sisters Anna and Sonia Kuprienko, the pair are often travelling Europe doing gigs. Here’s their advice for life on the road.

'Having plenty of rest on the plane is a must and no alcohol, it multiplies the dehydration,' says Anna. 'Also, coconut oil is great as a cream or a mask. In fact, it’s the best natural moisturiser for face, hair.'

'Also, make sure you get a good night’s sleep,' offers Sonia. 'It may be very hard as you want to explore a new place, but we find it very important to give our bodies that needed rest to recover so then we're able to make the most of the trip and explore all the places in full.'

Eva K Salvi, Freelance Fashion Photographer, 30

Freelance fashion photographer Eva is the ultimate jetsetter, for whom a typical working week just doesn’t exist. When she’s not shooting for the world’s leading fashion editorials, she takes care of her skin by keeping things pure ‘n simple.

'The best tip I was ever given is to drink loads of water when travelling and keep it make-up free. I find that travelling with foundation on will always give me outbreaks. Also, I find that my hair and skin will react to different environments in different ways and I often have to adapt on the go,' Eva explains.

'I always make sure I carry makeup remover and/or wipes with me as well as anti-bacterial gel as I find that travel and aircon on planes will give me outbreaks. A favourite product of mine is the 3 Step Skincare System by Clinique. I find that it’s the perfectly balanced routine, whatever your skin type. And my final rule is never go to bed without having fully removed your make-up and hydrated your face properly. I know it sounds basic but it actually works wonders!'
