I Got A 30-Minute Facial And Sacked Off Foundation For A Week

I was doubtful it would do anything, but (as ever) I was happy to be proved wrong

I Got A 30-Minute Facial And Sacked Off Foundation For A Week

In London, scratch that most of the Westernized world, how stressed you are can sometimes be mistaken for success. Not naming names, but friends will often brag about how exhausted they are and how many emails are in their inbox like this is them living their best lives. Sometimes, you need to take a thirty-minute lapse from reality to realise just how much you need a break.

One afternoon when I should have been meeting a deadline I skipped out of the office to go to the W London Away Spa for a flash treatment. Though my facial took only half an hour, it was enough to kick my foundation habit for a week and refresh my perspective on my work-life balance. Ironically, with one less thing to consider (my skin), I actually think it made me more productive.

What’s The Treatment Called?

Away Signature Facial

What’s It Promise?

‘Using 5 AHAs, this triple exfoliating peel will give you that fabulous camera-ready look. Just apply makeup and step into the spotlight!’

How Was It?

When I turned up my face was a hot red mess (literally). But after my make-up being gently removed, the therapist applied Alpha-hydroxy Acids (AHA) that used fruit, lactic and citric acid to help rejuvenate my skin. At first, the peel felt tingly and tight, but it removed the dead cells and calmed my complexion’s patchiness. After being moisturised and massaged for a further ten minutes, my skin was brighter, softer and plumper. Though I did dab on a little concealer here and there (I’m only human!) I sacked off the foundation for the rest of the week. Hurrah!

Any Tips?

Firstly, leave plenty of time. After my facial, I made use of the sauna and steam room, which felt like an extension of the treatment. However, I lost track of time and was extremely late for meeting my friends after (sorrynotsorry). Also, if you’re willing to splurge, the spa offers a handful of packages that allow you to try out a few different treatments at once. For instance, fitness fanatics would enjoy the £185 package that includes a personal training session, Oxygen facial, spray tan and smoothie. While, anyone with an event to ready for might be tempted by The Party Girl treatment that includes a facial, massage, mani or pedi, hair treatment or spray tan and a mini bottle of champagne.
