Remember When Robbie And Kylie Had A Song Together?

Remember Whensday is a new weekly series where we spend Wednesday reflecting on an iconic moment, argument, relationship or news story - or at least one that we couldn't stop talking about during school/college/internships/our first jobs.

The year is 2000. We are all still terribly glad that the millenium bug was actually made up, and two of the biggest names in pop stardom have come together to record a song.

Remember when Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams, both so famous that they can be described using only their first names, came together and sang Kids? Chances are you were too young and innocent at the time to realise that the lyrics were actually pretty raunchy, or to notice that Robbie and Kylie had some off the clock sexual tension.

According to his autobiography, Robbie claims that he had a shot with Kylie, but that when she stripped down to a g-string he got the giggles (what is WRONG WITH YOU ROBBIE?) and unsurprisingly Kylie didn't find his laughter an aphrodisiac and the incident put the kibosh on any backstage nookie.

Williams wrote: 'I think that any chance of anything disappeared when I laughed at her. Perhaps she likes being naked, but she probably doesn’t enjoy being laughed at by some Stokie idiot.'

The main chorus for Kids went:

'Jump on board, take a ride, yeah

(You'll be doin' it alright)

Jump on board, feel the high, yeah

'Cause the kids are alright'

We can't help thinking that the ride Robbie was describing might not have been the type that we should have been singing along with on the school run.

Unlike lots of other duos, there's no absolute winner here. Robbie took his millions, moved to America and married the beautiful and long-suffering Ayda Field, and Kylie continued to make best selling albums and headline Glastonbury.

Bonus remember when... Robbie also did a cover of Something Stupid with actual Nicole Kidman. Basically Robbie spent a nice chunk of the very early 00's singing with beautiful Australian women. Not such a tough life, eh Robbie?
