Watching Tom Ford's film* A Single Man* has a universal side-effect - you're left asking 'WHEN will he direct another film?' Well this year we've heard there will be a second To Kill A Mockingbird, and a (maybe) second Tom Ford film.
According to The Hollywood ReporterTom Ford is teaming up with George Clooney (oh yes) for a new thriller entitled Nocturnal Animals. Ford is down to direct the adaptation of the novel Tony and Susan written by Austin Wright, while Mr Clooney will produce. The novel is about a woman who receives a manuscript from her husband she left 20 years ago.
Tom Ford said to WWD last month that he is working on turning an unnamed novel into a script. He said: “A book is a book; a film is a film. They are totally different things. Sometimes things are subtle in a book because there’s an inner monologue with the character, and turning it into a film, you don’t have that inner monologue—unless you do, which I don’t love.…You have to have something personal; you have to take what speaks to you about a book and amplify that. It’s impressionism, in a way.”
The designer has previously said of his wish to direct again: "I have a few I could do if I had the time to shoot them. Yes definitely, I'd be very sad if I don't make more films."
A Single Man, starring Julianne Moore and Colin Firth, was a roaring success. Colin Firth received a Best Actor nomination at the Oscars and a SAG Award and Golden Globe for his performance.
