1. The mise en scene: Deep green foliage added to the magical, fairytale theme seen here as well as on other catwalks this haute couture season.

**2. The colour palette: **Soft, very slightly dusty shades dominated throughout, from ivory to palest rose and from eau de nil to primrose.

3. The comparative ease: For all the elaboration, Elie Saab's collections are more accessible both in terms of silhouette and price point than some in the French capital so it's small wonder that a burgeoning clientele took pride of place alongside the press. This is a couturier who understands that madame might like to cover her arms, say.

4. The surface decoration: Silk blooms (specifically tulips), opalescent beads, sequins, feathers and more made their way across dresses, all applied by hand and with lightness of touch.

5. The lace: This most traditional and precious of couture fabrics looked lovely at the edge of a neckline here or the hem of a sleeve there.
