It's official: the only hair trend hotter than the ‘lob’ (long bob) is fresh-out-the-shower - which is good news for those of us who can't brave the chop but still want to be ahead of curve. The trend first took hold backstage at the Spring/Summer '15 shows, where models at Lanvin, Alexander Wang and Marni (to name but a few) rocked seriously slicked-back 'dos.

Before long the look popped up again in the post-apocalyptic, and seriously hot, Balmain campaign, where Adriana Lima and Joan Smalls worked glossy, saturated scalps and lengths. And so started the trickle-down onto the red carpet, thanks to stars like Rita Ora and Megan Fox.

We are however, under no illusion that the wet-look trend falls somewhere quite high up on the intimidating scale – after all, the line between super chic and actually, just sopping (or worse, greasy) is a fine one. Those keen to give it a go should consider their natural hair type and go from there - if you've got longer lengths that don't frizz, try poker straight ends and use a product like Redken Water Wax 03 Shine Defining Pomade, £8.80 in the roots to achieve that glamorous, glistening effect.

Gals with shorter styles meanwhile, should take a lighter touch with the product, adding plenty of root volume to avoid the hair looking flat. Alternatively saturate the hair with a spray like ghd's Shine Spray, £9.95 to add gloss and hold.

Megan Fox

We love the contrast between Megan's soft curls and sleek roots.

Alicia Keys2 of 10

Alicia Keys

Nailing the look with glossy, long tresses.

Evan Rachel Wood3 of 10

Evan Rachel Wood

A touch of gloss at the roots and plenty of volume makes for a great shorter style.

Anna Paquin4 of 10

Anna Paquin

The wet look is perfect for slicking back your faux-hawk.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley5 of 10

Rosie Huntington Whiteley

A gorgeous, glossy look complete with poker straight lengths.

Kim Kardashian6 of 10

Kim Kardashian

Kim's a fan of wet-look hair, and gives it plenty of different spins. We love the sharp side part here.

Mollie King7 of 10

Mollie King

This is dramatic but so works - Mollie looks like futuristic mermaid and we're all about it.

Scarlett Johansson8 of 10

Scarlett Johansson

Wet from root to tip is hard to pull off - we recommend dramatic makeup like Scarlett so it looks intentional.

Felicity Jones9 of 10

Felicity Jones

An elegant look with a nod to the editorial.

Hayden Panetterie10 of 10

Hayden Panetterie

Make like Hayden and add height to give your 'do an evening spin.

We recommend trying this one post sundown – daytime wear can run the risk of looking you've just the left the gym. Keep makeup bold and take a few cues from the A-Lister's we've seen nailing the trend in the gallery below…
